Mom's old crochet dress, H&M dress, Topshop sandals, vintage Ferragamo bag

While Hanna (LittleMissH) was frolicking around Madrid and feasting on the sales in Edinburgh (you lucky thing!)
I did my own shopping...at the back of my closet,
where I found this knitted-slash-crochet dress...I'm not that familiar with the terms.
(But! I did go through a knitting phase a few years ago
where I was able to finish half a scarf then gave up right after...).
Anyway,  I think it used to be what my mom used to wear to the beach
over her bathing suit back in the 90's.
So I decided to work with it by pairing it over the H&M gingham dress that
which I wear so often, you guys must be sick of it :)

Paolo Roversi and the Large Format Camera

A little bit of inspiration for any photographers our there. This is a scan from the October 1998 issue of Vogue Italia with Audrey Marnay shot by Paolo Roversi. I admire him for primarily shooting with a large format camera. It's something I definitely would like to try sometime. Last night I was looking through a book of old Hungarian photographs from the Romantic to the Avante-garde period and I love the soft focus and lighting you get with these old cameras. Does anyone else get annoyed by digital cameras butchering photos when there is too much contrast between light and dark spots? It looks jagged. No?

Do we have your attention?

Last weekend I had the crazy (or not so crazy, depending on where you're from) idea of making my friends put on outlandish makeup for a fun night out dancing. I say crazy because we live in Vancouver and, aside from goth nights (Sanctuary at Club 23 if you're interested), you don't see anyone embracing theatrics for the everyday. We started small, but still had a lot of fun. My friend Ratha suggests we rent Bowie's Labrynth the next time we do this. I can't wait!

I lost count of how many times someone asked "what's up with the makeup?"

All of these photos were taken by my boy Kevin on his beloved Leica M2. I think he looked the best, personally.

The rules:
1. go to the 4th folder on your computer where you store your images
2. pick the 4th picture in the folder
3. explain the picture
4. tag 4 people to do the same

You may or may not know that, outside of fashion, I'm into some pretty kooky things like sacred geometry. This image was found on a random google trip so I don't remember the source. I would love to see a collection that ties in this kind of geometry. It's so elegant. In a mathematical way.

I tag the readers of my blog because I'm curious to see what you all dig up. Tell me if you're giving it a go!

I'm sorry, but I am a bit ill and couldn't post these days.
As you know these days the "Haute Couture" Paris Week is taken placed. I have to mencionate VALENTINO (with all the letters lol) because of the amazing catwalk. I'm in love with the third one!

Me ha llamado mucho la atención también el desfile de Christia Dior, por las formas de los vestidos. Me recuerdan a los pétalos de una flor! =D

I also like the Christian Dior show, the shape of the dresses seems like the petals of a flower. :)

Y por último, el calendario de Febrero. Espero que os guste =D

I couldn't resist

My mom has always had a slight obsession with woven leather. She had this pair of black woven leather Cole Haan shoes that she absolutely adored to death. Like I'm not even kidding when I say that she wore them until the sole fell off and the weaves got so loose that her little toe started peeping out of it. And even then she still tried to wear them out. Pang-'palengke!' daw. haha.

It's funny how my mom and I are so different. While I am ocassionaly lured into 'fast fashion', she only buys things that last her for a minimum of 10 years. In fact, her favorite dark wash Versace jeans (bought in the days when Linea Italia was still hip) are now white! You know how tapered high waisted jeans are all the rage now? Well, my mother has been wearing them for the last decade! Ha!

Ok, what was I talking about again? Aha, woven leather! I know my mom has been secretly wanting to get a Bottega Veneta for a while now because the house is a master when it comes to weaved leather goods. I don't know why she's never come around to actually purchasing one...maybe she's just way too prudent to buy something something that she can't wear every single day.

Well, fear not Mom because as of today we are proud owners of not one but two Bottegas!

(i realize telling your mom you've maxed your card via blogging probably isn't the best way to break the news. oh well.)
I LOVE YOU, MAMA!!!!!!

Pinning and Tucking

Today I wore a modified version of the second outfit in this picture set. The one pictured below is what I would ideally wear if it wasn't freezing cold and if I didn't have to run in between classes (which calls for more practical shoes). In truth, I wore that outfit today with a grey sweater, purple velvet blazer, and then another more loose black blazer on top of that.

I pinned that purple skirt into a sort of draped/bubble skirt myself. Some days I feel like a walking pin cushion. But I like making a different outfit from a skirt that is otherwise quite long and not very flattering.

I also pinned up the blue skirt in the first couple of photos and matched it with a splatter-printed shirt which I completely forgot about and then dug up from my closet. It would fit right into Cathy Pill's most recent collection, no?

Feeling Tickled Pink

I'm feeling like wearing a lot of soft pink colours! After looking at this site.

Some fancy things I would like to wear right now.

Oh, I just want to wear chiffon and go around in bare feet (even if I did just purchase huge crazy boots). Yes, I want spring. I'm all ready for it.

Azzedine Alaia S/S 09

Who doesn't love Alaia? He's like no other fashion designer. He apparently has no website, no catwalk shows, and doesn't advertise. This is simply a case of the clothes speaking for themselves. You have to admire such a cost-efficient yet effective business plan. Cut out the frill and focus on the quality I say. If the recession doesn't end any time soon, do you think we'll experience a return to investment dressing?

I took the liberty of pairing a couple of looks from the spring 2009 collection with one of my favourite Escher pieces. Just because. Enjoy!

2009 Golden Globes – Red Carpet

Anne Hathaway, for Drama Queen, wore a beautiful Armani Privé blue dress with Swarovski crystal embroidered bustier and layers of gauze, absolutely dazzling. But there were something not so good, the deep blue against her white skin, accented with hot red lips and nails, got some cold look, and maybe she could let her hair down.

Angelina Jolie, showed with a Versace, gown essentially the same dress of always but with sparkles. But that slit on her leg, gave a sexy look, very apropiate for her. Altough, the entire outfit looks very nice for a recent mommy.

Too many curves for Renée Zellweger, too many sparkle, a lot of showed skin where we don’t want to see. Her Carolina Herrera blouse and fishtail skirt, did not make such a good match, but seems that she like it that way. Less hair, less gloss for next time.

This pink dress of Chanel Haute Couture confection saved the day for Cameron Diaz. It seemed that she got ready for Golden Globes at last minute, nice makeup, but she will need to take care of her roots done for next time on red carpet.

Is it Pirates Season? seems to be for Marisa Tomei, because she allowed someonet to put her into that blouse, throw on those strands and pewter jewelry and belt it up. We think is a NO.

It looks like Jennifer Lopez decided to wore literally the Golden Globes, in that gold dress of Marchesa. But after birthing twins so short time ago, we think that deep cleavage, seen in 1999 Red Carpet Oscars, wasn´t appropiate this time.

Miley Cirus tried to keep sweet and innocent in this soft white dress by Marchesa. We liked that combination of soft curls and flower printing under that clear silk. After all those pictures and scandals of 2008, she can keep trying, good shot on this one.

And what happened with Drew Barrymore hair this time? That crazy lady look didn´t fit her this time, but her baby blue John Galliano dress and Dior complements made her night.

Christina Applegate, looked astonishing in her pale yellow Roberto Cavalli dress. Those jewellery, shoes, purse and make up, made the perfect match.

Wow those curves, Beyoncé! Amazing creation by Elie Saab, which brought up her boobs, hips and thighs. Perfect jewellery, perfect hair, perfect golden shoes.

2009 Golden Globes Party

And some glam shots of the after party:
Heidi Klum, Eva Longoria Parker and Kate Beckinsale dress to the nines for this bash, showing everyone how it should be at the Beverly Hilton.

Vanessa Hudgens and Hayden Panettiere shared a laugh at the soiree.

Will Arnett, Amy Poehler and Drew Barrymore with big smiles.

Amanda Seyfried and Megan Fox, in a metallic duo.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt

Cathy Pill

The prints at the fw 09/10 Cathy Pill show reminded me of Peter Pilotto's work. I love how a print can be so eye-catching but the rest of the outfit remains almost minimalist due to a lack of frill and some rather sharp draping.

By the by, I find it funny how I get the most comments on posts with pictures of my own outfits. I hope you guys don't mind that they're not the most common! I like discussing collections too.

I took a few shots last night but my camera ran out of batteries so they'll be up today.
